Peru offers national hairless dog to Obamas

LIMA, Peru – Completely bald and older than the Incas, the Peruvian hairless dog seems like an odd fit for the White House.

But Peruvians are mindful of President-elect Barack Obama‘s preference for a hypoallergenic breed due to his daughter Malia’s allergies — and say the dark, rough-skinned pooch with large ears and a pointy snout could be just the solution.

At his first postelection news conference on Friday, Obama said choosing a pet dog for his daughters is a “major issue.”

“It has to be hypoallergenic. On the other hand, our preference would be to get a shelter dog, but a lot of shelter dogs are mutts like me,” the president-elect said.

The Friends of the Peruvian Hairless Dog Association responded on Monday, sending a letter to the U.S. Embassy in Peru offering the Obama family a 4-month-old pup that responds to “Machu Picchu,” the name of Peru’s famed Inca citadel.

“My family also has suffered from … not being able to have a pet because my son and I are asthmatic, so we thought it would be ideal for him (Obama) to have a dog like ours,” said association president Claudia Galvez.

Galvez, who has lived with six dogs of the breed for eight years, says being hairless has its benefits: The dogs are flealess and relatively odorless, too.

They were kept as pets during the Inca empire and depictions of the breed appear in 1,200-year-old, pre-Inca artwork.

The hairless dog was long scorned for its appearance before it was recognized internationally as the official Peruvian dog.

These are the pets of the presidential candidates

Still Experimenting…. 🙂 Still grinning evilly!!!!

Fourteen dogs, six cats, 14 fish, two turtles named Cuff and Link, three birds and a ferret have a stake in who wins the White House.

These are the pets of the presidential candidates. Most of the contenders have animals at home and among the four who don’t, Barack Obama is under pressure from his two daughters to get a dog if he wins.

John McCain towers over the field as a pet owner. He’s got 22, more than half saltwater fish.

The Associated Press is asking the candidates a series of questions about their personal tastes, habits and backgrounds. What pets live in your home?

Delaware Sen. Joe Biden: A cat.

New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton: “Seamus, our Lab.”

Connecticut Sen. Chris Dodd: None because of family’s allergies. Would like a dog.

Former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards: Golden retriever and chocolate Lab.

Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich: Pound-rescues Harry the beagle-basset, Lucie the beagle and George the cocker spaniel.

A Little Experiment-Barack Obama

We are about to make it to 4,000 hits!!!!……

I have to let you know I thought I was a ‘bad ass little bitch’ getting 100 or close to it ‘hits’ a day… Until I thought I would check out one of the ‘top blogs’ on WordPress…..OMG we are talking 10,000 hits a day!!!

Maybe I should rename my site to ‘Barack Obama’s Dog Blog’????……

I found an article with Obama and pets… I can use ‘tags’ with his name ….lets see what happens…lets call this a little experiment… 🙂 (Evil Grin)

A recent poll shows that John McCain leads Barack Obama among pet-owning voters 42-37%. McCain is reportedly doing especially well among dog owners. McCain has an array of dogs, a cat, turtles and birds. While non-pet owners favor Obama, most Americans have pets.

Obama isn’t necessarily closed to the idea of having a pet:

“While he doesn’t currently have a pet, Obama has reportedly promised his daughters a dog once the campaign is over.”

Suffice it to say that Obama, now that he has heard the latest from pet owners on the ground, will refine his position on the pet ownership issue, and will likely revise his dog adoption timetable. Campaign aides hint they’re conducting focus groups among college-age students and their Marxist professors to consider the most politically favorable breed options and aim to conclude canine procurement negotiations prior to the first Tuesday in November.

Scarf-wearing Muslims will not be invited to the debut appearance of Obama’s new four-legged pal.
